Tips On Purchasing An Instrument

Looking At Purchasing An Instrument For Your String Player??

This is the time of the year when some families consider purchase of a string instrument for their sons or daughters. If you are one of these families, please consider the following...

  • Choose a dealer/store where your child can try out more than 2 instruments in the same price range. Your student will feel more like the instrument is theirs if they can select one.

  • Decide on a price range before you begin your search. Call a string teacher for help with this one. Two instruments within the same price range can sound totally different.

  • Do not use the Internet to purchase an instrument unless you are going to be very willing and able to return the instrument if it is not worth what you paid for it.

  • Consult your student's string teacher for names of individual dealers in the Madison area. Or check out the "Links" tab on our home page for links to music stores.

  • Ask your child's teacher for help in listening to the tone of the instrument you choose and in examining the construction BEFORE you pay for it.

Don't hesitate to ask for help. We understand that everyone's financial situation is different.
